Hi! My name’s Sarah and I'm a UX Designer and Content Specialist.
After graduating with a BFA in Visual Communications and minor in Sociology, I spent more than three years working in the publication and mass media industries as both a designer and coordinator. As much as I enjoyed this experience and the industry as a whole, I couldn't pass up an opportunity that arose to combine my passion for design and travel: teaching high schoolers abroad in Thailand. I spent a year as a Technology & Occupations instructor in Phuket, immersing my students in various projects, ranging from pen pal video production to creating our own businesses online (with a full website design!). As much as my students enjoyed these interface design projects, I might have enjoyed them even more.
Upon my return to the US, I dove head first into the tech industry, taking a position as a Content Specialist at Favor, and eventually moving up to my current position as a Content Lead. Throughout the past two years, I've managed the in-app Favor content across more than 40 cities, including photography, menus, market launches and overall content strategy. In addition to these responsibilities, I oversee and lead a team of five Content Quality Associates. Together, we've successfully launched in multiple markets with 70%+ menu/restaurant coverage. In the Spring of 2017, I applied and was chosen to begin an internal internship with our small, but mighty, UX team. Through this opportunity, I was able to plan and run an in-depth usability study, testing some exciting upcoming new features in the Favor app.
After more than 5 years of experience working with user-facing products and designs, I was perfectly positioned to take the next step towards becoming a User Experience designer. In the Fall of 2017, I enrolled in Springboard’s UX Research & Design workshop. Under the mentorship of a UX professional, I took an idea from conception to clickable prototype, creating deliverables like personas, sitemaps, user stories, wireframes, surveys and user flows. In addition to the UX experience I've already gained throughout my professional life, this course helped to further my knowledge and gave me the opportunity to learn from industry professionals.
When not designing and problem-solving, you might find me checking out the Austin foodie scene, exploring a new hiking spot, or daydreaming of dogs. Email me at email@example.com to start a conversation!
